Two Space Weather Scientist Positions in Norway
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: Magnar Johnson <magnar.g.johnsen at uit.no>
Two positions as Space Weather Scientists open at new Space Weather
Centre at Tromsø Geophysical Observatory, UiT-The Arctic University of
Norway.
The goal is to establish, operate and expand a Space Weather Centre at
UiT The Arctic University of Norway. The Space Weather Centre will be
organized as a self-contained department of Tromsø Geophysical
Observatory and will operate according to a tailored mandate.
Officially, the Space weather staff will be subordinate to the TGO
leadership and steering committee, but will, in practice, be trusted
with a considerable degree of autonomy. However, it is expected that the
space weather related observations made at TGO would be a backbone of
services provided by the new centre. It is also expected that future
strategies of the centre be laid in cooperation and conjunction with the
observatory activities.
The establishment of the Space Weather Centre is expected to be
strategically in the framework of TGO's involvement in the ESA SSA
program. TGO is Expert Service Centre (ESC) Coordinator for Geomagnetic
Conditions within this program and the successful applicant is expected
to be heavily involved with the ESC definition and development.
