We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to serve as Scientist/Associate Scientist who takes on the responsibility in support of study projects on adjuvant and vaccine candidates. This position will require the incumbent to design, develop and qualify assays for analyzing samples from pre-clinical animal studies on VLP vaccine and adjuvant by a series of immunological assays such as Flowcytometric staining, Elispot, ELISA for antibodies or cytokines. This will involve hands on laboratory work, data analysis/interpretation and presentation in a variety of team settings. This position will be located at our Gaithersburg, MD facility and will report to the Senior Manager on Cellular Immunology. The Scientist/Associate Scientist will be responsible for assay development and execution, summarize result report, and daily laboratory operation and maintenance.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manipulating immune cells from mice and/or human blood including myeloid cells and lymphocytes for phenotype analysis and functional studies
- Operating FACS Calibour and probably BD LSR Fortessa
- Developing and executing multiple immunological and virological assays such as flowcytometric staining, Elispot, ELISA, HAI, and micro-neutralization assay
- Establishing laboratory SOPs as well as drafting technical, assay and reagent qualification reports
- Summarize and present experiment data; Assisting supervisor in data analysis, writing report and manuscript
- General lab organization and maintenance including equipment maintenance and calibration; cost-effective management of assay material and reagent inventories
- Other responsibilities required during project studies
Minimum Requirements:
- BS or Master’s or Ph.D. in Immunology/Virology field. Minimum of 8 years’ experience for BS degree, 5 years for Master degree, and 1-3 years for Ph.D. degree in research, or pharmaceutical and/or vaccine development.
- Extensive experience with multi-color flowcytometric staining including a good understanding on a 3-4 laser Flowcytometer including concepts of machine configuration, designing multi-color staining panels, and application of FACS Diva and Flowjo software.
- Experience on other immunological assays such as Elispot, T cell and B cell culture; culture and characterization of myeloid cells; experience with murine and human immune cells; assays to measure cytokines with CBA kits or luminex system; handling lymphoid tissues from mice.
- Experience on other techniques on immunology or clinical virology such as ELISA, HAI, and micro-neutralization assay
- Excellent interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills, ability to work independently on project with minimal supervising, design experiments, and analyze data.
- Computer skills, familiar with all the software used to perform job responsibilities.
