Research Associate in Space Plasma Physics:
UCL Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science
Laboratory)

From: Jonathan Rae <jonathan.rae at ucl.ac.uk>
We are seeking a scientifically productive post-doctoral scientist to
undertake research in the areas of space plasma physics funded under the
laboratory’s STFC consolidated grant. Given the details of the current
award, preference would be given to candidates who were willing and able to
provide particular emphasis on continuing our current work on auroral
acceleration processes. However, given the profile of the group, candidates
with broader areas of interest, including understanding of the solar wind,
its interaction with the terrestrial dayside magnetopause, and/or the
dynamics of the terrestrial magnetotail, would also be considered. Ideally
candidates would have research plans which include exploitation of data from
our current PI instruments on the ESA Cluster mission, and/or preparation
for our upcoming PI involvement in the Solar Orbiter particle
experiments. However, familiarity with other space-based data assets would
also be acceptable. The applicant will be expected to participate in wider
group scientific activities including preparations for future space plasma
research missions. This position is funded untilMarch 2016 in the first
instance. Further funding to support the post may be available.
MSSL is the UK’s largest university-based space science research institution
and is involved in many leading space research missions.
The closing date for applications is 10 July 2014.
Informal enquiries should be directed to Prof. Chris Owen
(c.owen@ucl.ac.uk).
